Our Story

Founded in 1988. Still Independent.

Golden Benchmark Insurance Services was established in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988 โ€” at a time when most business insurance was sold by captive agents with one product and one answer: take it or leave it.

Emmi Ensign built this brokerage on a different premise: that small and mid-sized Bay Area businesses deserve the same market access, the same analytical rigor, and the same policy-by-policy advocacy that large enterprises get from national brokers.

Over 35 years later, that premise hasn't changed. Emmi and her team still review every renewal, still negotiate with underwriters directly, and still pick up the phone when a client has a claim question at 7pm.

No. Golden Benchmark is compensated by carrier commission only โ€” built into the premium. You pay the same premium whether you buy direct from a carrier or through us. The difference is that we shop multiple carriers on your behalf and provide ongoing coverage management at no additional cost.

That's often where we're most useful.
